About Hawthorne Canvas

A story woven in.

Inspired by the rich character of vintage tapestry, Hawthorne Canvas brings together warm golden tones, faded florals, and a beautifully textured, woven look. The pattern feels collected over time — nostalgic and storied, yet made to be carried every day.

With its perfectly vintage feel and autumn palette, Hawthorne is a standout for the season while still feeling timeless enough to carry well beyond it.

Please note: Pattern placement will vary from piece to piece, making each Hawthorne bag uniquely its own.

The Story Behind the Name

Named after Grace Hopper, the pioneering computer scientist, mathematician, and U.S. Navy Rear Admiral who helped shape modern computing.

After graduating from Vassar College, Hopper earned both her master’s degree and Ph.D. from Yale before joining the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II. While working on early computers, she championed the idea of using English-based programming commands instead of complex symbols — a revolutionary concept that helped lead to the development of COBOL, one of the world’s first widely adopted programming languages.

Her groundbreaking work transformed the future of technology, and she spent more than four decades serving her country while inspiring generations of innovators to think differently.

Like its namesake, the Hopper is built with purpose — adaptable, dependable, and ready for wherever the next adventure leads.

Fun Fact: Grace Hopper is credited with popularizing the term “debugging” after an actual moth was discovered inside an early computer, causing a malfunction.

Canvas Care Suggestions

When spot cleaning the canvas, we recommend using a brush or sponge with water only to gently wipe the soiled area. We do not recommend using cleaners or products other than water, as they may discolor the canvas.
