Meet Marcy
Marcella “Marcy” Hayes Ng never set out to make history—she simply followed the opportunities placed in front of her and believed the sky was always the limit.
In 1979, at just 23 years old, Marcy became the first African American woman in the U.S. military to earn her Army aviator wings, completing helicopter flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. What began as another challenge in her ROTC journey quickly became a groundbreaking moment in military history.
Marcy went on to serve with distinction in leadership roles across the Army, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Colonelafter decades of service. Her story is one of courage, perseverance, and faith—reminding us that sometimes the path to making history begins with simply saying yes to the next opportunity.
