Threads of a Father's Love: An Heirloom Story

R. Riveter is proud to share the stories of our Nation's heroes. This story was submitted by Katie Pringle, a Veteran's daughter, and R. Riveter Heirloom customer

When I was 20 years old, I lost my dad unexpectedly.

Of a few things he kept over the [years], one was his Army uniform...he joined at the age of 18 [and] had kept it for over 40 years.

I was never sure what to do with it but could never part with it.

Why did you decide to create an Heirloom bag?

One day I saw a story about [R. Riveter] and what [you do] with the uniforms. It took me a while to be OK with parting with my dad‘s uniform, after 27 years but I knew that he'd have been OK with this instead of sitting in the closet I could carry it with me every day in addition to the bag for myself.

I also had two smaller pouches made for my two children...they never met their grandfather so this was something they could also have [to carry his memory].

What does your Heirloom bag mean to you?

I cried when the bag came. They were exactly what I had envisioned, and I have carried it ever since...It was turned into something that I can use and think of him every day Instead of hanging in my closet, that means a lot to me.
