WHO WAS BETSY ROSS?
Betsy Ross (1752–1836) was an American Patriot, Flag maker and for centuries has stood as a symbol of female ingenuity.
At the age of 24 she had her own upholstery business in the colonial city of Philadelphia. During the American Revolution she played a key role by constructing uniforms, tents and flags for the Continental Army. She was approached by General Washington in 1776 to create a new flag and she sealed the deal on her page in the American history books. Rumor has it that she persuaded Washington to go with the five-pointed star instead of the six-pointed he originally asked for because it was easier to sew. How about that – a woman after our own hearts, strong, practical a team player who knows her worth.
