My Story Bag: A Timeless Tribute to Handwritten Connections
In a world increasingly dominated by technology, there’s something profoundly personal about the art of handwriting. It’s more than just letters on a page; it’s a tangible connection to the people who came before us and the stories they carried. Each handwritten note is a snapshot of a moment, a bridge between generations, uniquely marked by the individual who penned it. No two handwriting styles are exactly alike, making each piece a personal artifact of history and identity.
The Heart of the Project
R. Riveter's new My Story Bag holds a special place in Co-Founder Lisa Bradley's heart because it embodies her passion for connecting generations. R. Riveter is named after Rosie the Riveter, a symbol of strength and resilience. This historical significance is deeply intertwined with the personal connection that handwriting represents. As we navigate an era where handwritten letters are becoming rarer, our mission is to preserve these cherished moments for future generations.
Handwritten letters are woven into the fabric of our family histories, often tucked away in cherished places. For Lisa, they include the only communication she had with my husband during his deployment, when weeks would stretch between phone calls as the war on terror began. Each letter was a lifeline, a tangible piece of his presence across the world. Holding those letters allowed her to feel connected not only to him but to the countless military spouses before her who relied solely on written words to stay close to their loved ones. It reminded her of the advances in technology and how fortunate I was to be a military spouse in a time of such progress.
More Than Just Handwriting
This project is more than just about preserving handwriting. It’s about capturing those little pieces of advice, those cherished sayings that evoke warm memories of loved ones. "From as far back as I can remember, my mom and I shared a tender exchange: 'I loved you first.' It started when I was afraid of the dark, and we would say it back and forth until her voice faded down the hall. Those words became a comforting ritual that lingered long after," says Lisa.
Recently, Lisa took a letter from her mom, written for her birthday, and turned it into a bag from our My Story collection. Cameron and Lisa chose to focus on handbags because they’re with you every day, unlike clothing that changes with trends. They wanted to create something that would accompany our customers through their daily lives, offering both organization and a personal touch. Now, Lisa can carry a piece of my mom’s love with her, cheering her on through every moment of her life.
Preserving Memories
The My Story Bag is our way of preserving the essence of handwritten messages and cherished memories, keeping them alive and close to us, even as the world continues to change. Each bag in this collection serves as a daily reminder of the connections we hold dear, making the past a cherished part of our present.
At R. Riveter, we believe in the power of stories. The My Story Bag is not just an accessory; it’s a legacy. It’s a way to carry a piece of your history with you, honoring the timeless art of handwriting and the personal connections it represents.
