Happy 249th Birthday to the U.S. Army!
…AND THE ARMY GOES ROLLING ALONG
As we commemorate the U.S. Army's 249th birthday this year, it's a momentous occasion to reflect on the rich history and unwavering dedication of one of the world’s most formidable military forces. From its humble beginnings to its modern-day achievements, the U.S. Army has played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s history and securing its future.
The Origins of the U.S. Army
The U.S. Army was officially established on June 14, 1775, during the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Congress recognized the need for a unified fighting force to oppose British rule, leading to the creation of the Continental Army.
Under the command of General George Washington, this fledgling army endured hardships, faced numerous battles, and ultimately secured American independence with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
The U.S. Army played a crucial role in the growth of our Nation, providing a strong symbol to rally behind for the patriots in the Thirteen Colonies.During the Revolutionary War, the soldiers in the U.S. donned red and blue uniforms. In 1902, the iconic olive drab field uniforms were first issued - perhaps the most well-known uniform to date. The signature green 'Fatigue' color was mandated for dress uniforms in 1961.
