National Poppy Day 2025
Honoring Sacrifice: National Poppy Day and the Symbol of Remembrance
At R. Riveter, we believe in honoring the sacrifices of those who have served and continue to serve our country. National Poppy Day, observed on the Friday before Memorial Day, offers a poignant opportunity to reflect, remember, and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our Nation.
The red poppy has long been a symbol of remembrance, inspired by the famous poem, In Flanders Fields, written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae during World War I. His words captured the haunting beauty of poppies growing among the graves of fallen soldiers, and they continue to inspire generations to remember the cost of freedom:
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
McCrae’s poem serves as a powerful reminder that remembrance is not passive. It calls us to action—to carry forward the torch of gratitude, honor, and support for those who serve.
At R. Riveter, we see this mission reflected in every handbag we craft.
Our 2025 Poppy Collection serves to represent the strength, resilience, and dedication of military spouses and families across the country. We are proud to play a role in preserving the stories of service, sacrifice, and perseverance.
This National Poppy Day, we invite you to wear a red poppy as a visible tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom. Take a moment to reflect on their courage, share their stories, and hold the torch high for the generations to come.
