Meet the Riveter: Tavia

Name: Tavia R.
Year Started at R.Riveter: 2016
Position: Remote Riveter (Liner)
Military Affiliation: One grandfather served in the Navy, the other served in the army, my father served in the Air Force, and both of my brothers are currently in the Air Force.
1. First, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a single mom with a two year old daughter. Being a mom is my favorite, but I am also an artist, an aspiring photographer, and a collector of hobbies. I love to run, and want to participate in a marathon or a spartan race someday. I love animals and have two dogs, three cats, and six chickens; someday I would like to have a cow and some sheep. I compete with my dogs in agility, which was a childhood dream of mine—finally making it happen! I also thought I was a Jedi when I was a kid, and I tried to build a spaceship in the backyard to get back to my home planet of Naboo. I love toasted peanut butter, honey, and banana sandwiches, I’m trying to learn French, I am a pretty good equestrienne, and I really like milk.
2. Why did you join R.Riveter?
I joined R.Riveter because I saw the spot on Shark Tank and was so impressed and inspired by what I saw and heard. I thought to myself, “I would be so proud to be part of that company!”. I also loved the tie that it has to the military. Being a military brat, serving in the military is something that I seriously considered when I was younger. Being part of R.Riveter makes me feel like I have that connection in some small way.
3. How has being a military spouse  affected your journey and your career?
I am not a military spouse, but having grown up surrounded by the military lifestyle has definitely made an impact on who I am as a person. I don’t give up, no matter how down things might get, and I will always do my best to do what is right and honorable.
4. How has R.Riveter affected your life?
R.Riveter has been a huge blessing to me and my daughter. It has given me a way to provide for my daughter, while stilling being able to raise her. Being a mother is my top priority, and R.Riveter helps to support that.
5. What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I am a part of something that happens here, in America. Something that brings people together from across the country, from different paths, and combines our talents to create beautiful, quality, pieces of workmanship.
6. What is one of your most proud moments at R.Riveter?
Every time I get to tell someone about what I do, and the company I am a part of. People love the story, and concept. So do I.
7. Favorite part about working at R.Riveter?
The uniqueness of it. I get to be a stay at home mom, while still being a part of a bigger movement. And everyone is so down to earth! I mean, how many people can say that they have actually talked to the people who created the company they are working for? That is super neat.
8. Favorite R.Riveter handbag?
The Micky with green wool, hands down. If I could get an R.Riveter handbag, that would be the one! I mentioned I want sheep someday, right? Well, I am slightly obsessed, so I was really excited when I saw that there was a handbag that used wool. And I love that it is a collaboration with the Faribault Woolen Mill, and the history that is there. Add to that the story of Micky Axton and her being an Air Force test pilot, and my father and brothers serving in the Air Force...I love everything about it.
9. Fun Fact about yourself?
I can’t donate blood (which is a really sad thing for me!) because I might have mad cow disease. I was born and raised in England...ate British beef.
