The Williams is our favorite bag for on-the-go living. With three outside pockets for easy access to essentials and an inside large enough for a 13-inch laptop, this bag is where utility meets beauty.

New for Spring, the Williams is available in our newest solid - Liberty Green. So much to be encouraged by this historic Liberty green hue. Inspired by Lady Liberty herself, standing tall at the gateway to the American Dream, she has become a lasting symbol of freedom throughout the world. Just as its namesake stands with one foot raised and ready to move forward – we hope this R. Riveter hue brings hope, clarity, wisdom, and confidence as you carry it with you on your next adventure.

Each R.Riveter handbag takes a journey across the country before arriving at your doorstep. Components are crafted by independent military spouses in their homes around the nation, and shipped to R.Riveter's FabShop to be assembled into a one-of-a-kind product.

Inspiration Behind the Name

The Williams Tote was inspired by Cathay Williams.

In 1844, Cathay Williams was born a slave in Independence, Missouri. (Ironic, right?)

Cathay was "freed" by the Union Forces who then volun-told her she would work as a cook and laundress. Not wanting to be a burden on her family when the Civil War ended, Cathay posed as a man - William Cathay - to join the newly formed 38th Infantry Regiment known as the Buffalo Soldiers.

(Talk about a "We Can Do It" attitude.)

Crazy enough, it took years for her identity as a woman to be discovered. While the details of Cathay's death are unknown, we do know this - Cathay was a woman determined to course her own life, the first black woman to enlist and the only female Buffalo Soldier.

Maintenance of R. Riveter Leather:
We love using real veg tanned leather in our handbags because they just better with age.  If you happen to get scratches or water marks, you can usually get the bag looking new again with just a little maintenance.

Canvas Care Suggestions:
When spot cleaning the canvas, we suggest using a brush or sponge with water only to wipe it off soiled area. We do not recommend using anything other than water as it could discolor canvas material.
