INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NAME
The Otto was named after one of the original Rosie the Riveter’s, Mrs. Elinor Otto. When WWII began and men were pulled away from their jobs to serve their country, Mrs. Otto was one of the nearly 6 million women who went to work to keep the country moving forward. She worked until 2014 when she was laid off when the BOEING Plant shut down operations. She was responsible for working on every single C-17 plane that went through that plant.

Susie King Taylor—A Fearless Educator
Susie King Taylor was born in a time when it was illegal for Black women to get an education. Thankfully and rightfully, this did not stop her from seeking out a secret school that would teach her how to read. As we all know, knowledge is power, so this is where her story takes flight. Her education got the attention of Union officers who offered her the role of teaching their youth (and some adults). She was only 14. *gasps*
We know what you’re thinking, “how did a 14-year-old run a school of 40 kids?” And the answer to that would be, with patience and grace. Taylor was eager to teach other freed Black Americans how to read since she saw the opportunity her education had given her.
Along her way, she met and married Edward King, an officer with the First South Carolina Volunteers of African Descent. When it came time for them to relocate, she followed as a nurse, still teaching many adults and children along the way. When the war was over, she was able to open a (non-secret) school for freed children. *You go girl!*
In her spare time, she was able to write down a detailed memoir about her time in the war—the only memoir of this kind ever written by a Black woman. (Incredible) Susie King Taylor knew the power of education and we are so proud to honor her for her willingness to share it with others to better their lives.

Grace Hopper—She Developed a New Computer Language
Setting the scene: It’s 1928. Grace Hopper graduates from Vassar with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and physics. She’s determined to learn more—it’s been this way since she was a little girl. She plans to get her masters and Ph.D. from Yale and she is certain she can do it. This is just the beginning of Miss Grace Hopper.
Writing her legacy: At a young age she showed promising and frankly ultra-impressive initiative. She was determined to serve her country in a huge way and joined the United States Navy Reserve. Her insane smarts landed her a role on the Bureau of Ships Computation Project where she eventually suggested the use of a new programming language using English in place of symbols. Naturally, people were hesitant but were curious. This was the beginning of the computer language “COBOL”. Hopper went on to serve in the military and built important systems for 43 years and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral and decorated with countless awards (excuse us while we pick up our jaw from the floor). Even after her retirement, she worked as a consultant to Digital Equipment Corporation aiding on committees, lecturing, and visiting engineering facilities. Her success in a male dominated field deserves a standing ovation. You go Grace!
Fun fact: she coined the term “debugging” in reference to fixing an issue within a computer when she found an actual moth within the system.

Inspiration Behind the Name
Named after Betsy Ross (1752–1836) – the American Patriot, Flag maker and a symbol of female ingenuity for centuries. The Betsy is your new year-round go to. Betsy Ross was an American Patriot, Flag maker and for centuries has stood as a symbol of female ingenuity.
At the age of 24 Betsy had her own upholstery business in the colonial city of Philadelphia. During the American Revolution she played a key role by constructing uniforms, tents and flags for the Continental Army. She was approached by General Washington in 1776 to create a new flag and she sealed the deal on her page in the American history books. Rumor has it that she persuaded Washington to go with the five-pointed star instead of the six-pointed he originally asked for because it was easier to sew. How about that – a woman after our own hearts, strong, practical, and a team player who knows her worth.

Inspiration Behind the Name
The Wilson Tote was inspired by Edith Wilson, the first woman who secretly served as acting President of the United States.
In the fall of 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke, his wife Edith began to handle day-to-day responsibilities of the Executive Office. She attended meetings and screened all matters of state, deciding which issues were important enough to bring to her bedridden husband. Edith continued this “stewardship” until the term ended in 1921, unofficially running the country months before women had the right to vote.
The Wilson Market Tote carries on the legacy of a strong, progressive woman whose dedication to her country and her family can inspire women everywhere.

Inspiration Behind the Name
In the heat of WWII, 20-year-old Naomi Parker Fraley went to work at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. She was assigned to a machine shop, where her duties included drilling, patching airplane wings, and riveting. It was in this shop where a newspaper photographer captured a photo of Fraley working, hair tied up in a telltale polkadot headscarf. This photo was likely the inspiration of an American wartime propaganda poster produced by J. Howard Miller for an electric company, intended to be an inspirational image to boost worker morale. The poster was never meant for public display, and had been all but forgotten during WWII. In the early 1980's, a copy resurfaced and "Rosie the Riveter" became a symbol of female strength and empowerment.
The Naomi Zipper Clutch will forever remind women everywhere that we too, can do it.

Clara Barton—The Helper and Nurturer
Who would've thought an extremely quiet and shy young woman would become the founder and leader of the American Red Cross, National First Aid Society, and open the first ever free school in New Jersey? Not us—but then again, why should we ever be surprised when a woman accomplishes amazing things?
To be honest, Barton’s story is a lot about her rising to the occasion time and time again, and then others coming in and taking over, kicking her out of the thing she built. (major thumbs down) But it never stopped her or even slowed her down. In fact, it allowed her to build and lead more and for that, we’re grateful.
As a young woman, she became a schoolteacher to help with her timidity. As mentioned earlier, she was so good at her job that she was funded to open the first free school in New Jersey. (How cool!) It was so successful that she had to hire more teachers to help out. When her time ended there, she began work nursing soldiers to health during the Civil War. She was a natural at collecting, organizing, and distributing supplies and her tenderness and care made all the difference. It was this desire to offer aid that fueled the creation of the American Red Cross to respond to natural disasters as well. During the war, she became known as “Angel of the Battlefield” for her efforts in aiding these soldiers so close to the front lines and for her quick thinking and creativity when supplies ran out (think corn husk bandages).
Barton’s nurturing and go-getter spirit is what we admire and honor her for—because who knows where we would turn to without her efforts for the American Red Cross. Thanks Clara!
