The Betsy. A petite-bucket bag with a lightweight but durable approach to your new everyday handsfree crossbody. Sporting two exterior slip pockets in premium water-resistant nylon, with a classic R. Riveter full grain leather bucket bottom that will stand the test of time. The Betsy brings a surprisingly roomy interior to its compact style. Lined in a chic striped twill, its interior boasts two open slip pockets AND a zipper pocket.  

Each R.Riveter handbag takes a journey across the country before arriving at your doorstep. Components are crafted by independent military spouses in their homes around the nation and shipped to R.Riveter's FabShop to be assembled into a one-of-a-kind product.

Inspiration Behind the Name

Named after Betsy Ross (1752–1836) – the American Patriot, Flag maker and a symbol of female ingenuity for centuries. The Betsy is your new year-round go to. Betsy Ross was an American Patriot, Flag maker and for centuries has stood as a symbol of female ingenuity. ​

At the age of 24 Betsy had her own upholstery business in the colonial city of Philadelphia. During the American Revolution she played a key role by constructing uniforms, tents and flags for the Continental Army. She was approached by General Washington in 1776 to create a new flag and she sealed the deal on her page in the American history books. Rumor has it that she persuaded Washington to go with the five-pointed star instead of the six-pointed he originally asked for because it was easier to sew. How about that – a woman after our own hearts, strong, practical, and a team player who knows her worth.

We love using real veg tanned leather in our handbags because they just better with age.  If you happen to get scratches or water marks, you can usually get the bag looking new again with just a little maintenance.
