Inspiration Behind the Name
Grace Hopper—She Developed a New Computer Language
Setting the scene: It’s 1928. Grace Hopper graduates from Vassar with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and physics. She’s determined to learn more—it’s been this way since she was a little girl. She plans to get her masters and Ph.D. from Yale and she is certain she can do it. This is just the beginning of Miss Grace Hopper.
Writing her legacy: At a young age she showed promising and frankly ultra-impressive initiative. She was determined to serve her country in a huge way and joined the United States Navy Reserve. Her insane smarts landed her a role on the Bureau of Ships Computation Project where she eventually suggested the use of a new programming language using English in place of symbols. Naturally, people were hesitant but were curious. This was the beginning of the computer language “COBOL”. Hopper went on to serve in the military and built important systems for 43 years and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral and decorated with countless awards (excuse us while we pick up our jaw from the floor). Even after her retirement, she worked as a consultant to Digital Equipment Corporation aiding on committees, lecturing, and visiting engineering facilities. Her success in a male dominated field deserves a standing ovation. You go Grace!
Fun fact: she coined the term “debugging” in reference to fixing an issue within a computer when she found an actual moth within the system.
Canvas Care Suggestions:
When spot cleaning the canvas, we suggest using a brush or sponge with water only to wipe it off soiled area. We do not recommend using anything other than water as it could discolor canvas material.

Inspiration Behind the Name
The Wilson Tote was inspired by Edith Wilson, the first woman who secretly served as acting President of the United States.
In the fall of 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke, his wife Edith began to handle day-to-day responsibilities of the Executive Office. She attended meetings and screened all matters of state, deciding which issues were important enough to bring to her bedridden husband. Edith continued this “stewardship” until the term ended in 1921, unofficially running the country months before women had the right to vote.
The Wilson Market Tote carries on the legacy of a strong, progressive woman whose dedication to her country and her family can inspire women everywhere.

Inspiration Behind the Name
Lucy Stone’s story begins like most of ours: learning about the way the world works through our parents. What she uncovered though, was that men had an advantage and special privileges over women for no apparent reason, like, whatsoever. And this totally did not fly for her. In the moment of time she was born into, women had no voting rights, barely any rights over their bodies, were paid significantly less than their male counterparts, and on top of it all had to wear long dresses layered with petticoats practically everywhere and in any season. Anyone else feel icky just thinking about it?
Our heroine’s story picks up at the age of 16 when she began teaching in district schools. She noticed the major pay gap between her and the men who taught the same material and voiced a huge “nope” to the committee. She was met with a “too bad” and a shrug.
Now that her blood was really boiling, let’s move on to her days in college, because yes, our girl was motivated to be heard. She started a debate club with a few of her gal pals and guess what—when she debated a guy from a newspaper over the topic of women’s rights, she totally blew him out of the water. *You go girl!* This led to her confidence to take on the government and demand that women have more rights starting with voting. You can thank her and her hard work for many of the rights we enjoy today as women.
Stone is remembered for being a powerful public speaker, an abolitionist, and suffragist. But truth be told she had her hand in so many more things that we didn’t even scratch the surface of (like her role in dress reform because she was totally over having to wear dresses every day and her work in roles within a marriage). *swooning times a thousand*
Fun fact: Lucy never took the last name of her husband Henry Blackwell because she felt doing so erased her of her own identity. (Henry was in full support of course. We love seeing a man who backs his woman like he did)
