Inspiration behind the Name
Betsy Ross (1752–1836) was an American Patriot, Flag maker and for centuries has stood as a symbol of female ingenuity.
At the age of 24 Betsy had her own upholstery business in the colonial city of Philadelphia. During the American Revolution she played a key role by constructing uniforms, tents and flags for the Continental Army. She was approached by General Washington in 1776 to create a new flag and she sealed the deal on her page in the American history books. Rumor has it that she persuaded Washington to go with the five-pointed star instead of the six-pointed he originally asked for because it was easier to sew. How about that – a woman after our own hearts, strong, practical, and a team player who knows her worth.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NAME
The Otto was named after one of the original Rosie the Riveter’s, Mrs. Elinor Otto. When WWII began and men were pulled away from their jobs to serve their country, Mrs. Otto was one of the nearly 6 million women who went to work to keep the country moving forward. She worked until 2014 when she was laid off when the BOEING Plant shut down operations. She was responsible for working on every single C-17 plane that went through that plant.

Inspiration Behind the Name
Lucy Stone’s story begins like most of ours: learning about the way the world works through our parents. What she uncovered though, was that men had an advantage and special privileges over women for no apparent reason, like, whatsoever. And this totally did not fly for her. In the moment of time she was born into, women had no voting rights, barely any rights over their bodies, were paid significantly less than their male counterparts, and on top of it all had to wear long dresses layered with petticoats practically everywhere and in any season. Anyone else feel icky just thinking about it?
Our heroine’s story picks up at the age of 16 when she began teaching in district schools. She noticed the major pay gap between her and the men who taught the same material and voiced a huge “nope” to the committee. She was met with a “too bad” and a shrug.
Now that her blood was really boiling, let’s move on to her days in college, because yes, our girl was motivated to be heard. She started a debate club with a few of her gal pals and guess what—when she debated a guy from a newspaper over the topic of women’s rights, she totally blew him out of the water. *You go girl!* This led to her confidence to take on the government and demand that women have more rights starting with voting. You can thank her and her hard work for many of the rights we enjoy today as women.
Stone is remembered for being a powerful public speaker, an abolitionist, and suffragist. But truth be told she had her hand in so many more things that we didn’t even scratch the surface of (like her role in dress reform because she was totally over having to wear dresses every day and her work in roles within a marriage). *swooning times a thousand*
Fun fact: Lucy never took the last name of her husband Henry Blackwell because she felt doing so erased her of her own identity. (Henry was in full support of course. We love seeing a man who backs his woman like he did)

Inspiration behind the Name
The Dot is named for Dorothy Braden who was a high school physics and french teacher until she heard that the Army was looking for college-educated southern teachers. The details of the position were vague and the strange interview was held in a random hotel room, but according to her she was "up for anything at that point."
In just a few weeks, Dot learned Japanese and became an expert cryptographer. She even knew that the Japanese had surrendered before President Truman did. This job was very hush-hush, so Dot and her coworkers were threatened with espionage punishable by life in prison.
In 2017, after the NSA declassified everything, Dot was eventually convinced to tell her amazing story which can now be enjoyed for generations to come.
The Dot is a special handbag. Not only does it pay homage to an incredible woman, it also empowers military spouses today. Each part and piece of the Dot is handcrafted by military spouses across the country, allowing them to earn flexible, mobile income in a transient life with their soldier.

Inspiration Behind the Name
The Williams Tote was inspired by Cathay Williams.
In 1844, Cathay Williams was born a slave in Independence, Missouri. (Ironic, right?)
(Talk about a "We Can Do It" attitude.)
Crazy enough, it took years for her identity as a woman to be discovered. While the details of Cathay's death are unknown, we do know this - Cathay was a woman determined to course her own life, the first black woman to enlist and the only female Buffalo Soldier.

Inspiration behind the name
Susie King Taylor—A Fearless Educator
Susie King Taylor was born in a time when it was illegal for Black women to get an education. Thankfully and rightfully, this did not stop her from seeking out a secret school that would teach her how to read. As we all know, knowledge is power, so this is where her story takes flight. Her education got the attention of Union officers who offered her the role of teaching their youth (and some adults). She was only 14. *gasps*
We know what you’re thinking, “how did a 14-year-old run a school of 40 kids?” And the answer to that would be, with patience and grace. Taylor was eager to teach other freed Black Americans how to read since she saw the opportunity her education had given her.
Along her way, she met and married Edward King, an officer with the First South Carolina Volunteers of African Descent. When it came time for them to relocate, she followed as a nurse, still teaching many adults and children along the way. When the war was over, she was able to open a (non-secret) school for freed children. *You go girl!*
In her spare time, she was able to write down a detailed memoir about her time in the war—the only memoir of this kind ever written by a Black woman. (Incredible) Susie King Taylor knew the power of education and we are so proud to honor her for her willingness to share it with others to better their lives.

Inspiration Behind the Name
The Wilson Tote was inspired by Edith Wilson, the first woman who secretly served as acting President of the United States.
In the fall of 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke, his wife Edith began to handle day-to-day responsibilities of the Executive Office. She attended meetings and screened all matters of state, deciding which issues were important enough to bring to her bedridden husband. Edith continued this “stewardship” until the term ended in 1921, unofficially running the country months before women had the right to vote.
The Wilson Market Tote carries on the legacy of a strong, progressive woman whose dedication to her country and her family can inspire women everywhere.

Inspiration Behind the Name
Named after Margaret Hardenbroeck DeVries Philipse (c. 1630-c. 1690).
Margaret Hardenbroeck DeVries Philipse (c. 1630-c. 1690) or as we call her, “Margot”, exemplified strong, independent female authority. She was educated, independent and entrepreneurial in the 17th century, when women were not typically those things.
She fought for women’s rights under Dutch law and eventually migrated to NYC where she continued to dominate as a business owner in the shipping industry and as an advocate for women’s marital rights.

Inspiration Behind the Name
Grace Hopper—She Developed a New Computer Language
Setting the scene: It’s 1928. Grace Hopper graduates from Vassar with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and physics. She’s determined to learn more—it’s been this way since she was a little girl. She plans to get her masters and Ph.D. from Yale and she is certain she can do it. This is just the beginning of Miss Grace Hopper.
Writing her legacy: At a young age she showed promising and frankly ultra-impressive initiative. She was determined to serve her country in a huge way and joined the United States Navy Reserve. Her insane smarts landed her a role on the Bureau of Ships Computation Project where she eventually suggested the use of a new programming language using English in place of symbols. Naturally, people were hesitant but were curious. This was the beginning of the computer language “COBOL”. Hopper went on to serve in the military and built important systems for 43 years and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral and decorated with countless awards (excuse us while we pick up our jaw from the floor). Even after her retirement, she worked as a consultant to Digital Equipment Corporation aiding on committees, lecturing, and visiting engineering facilities. Her success in a male dominated field deserves a standing ovation. You go Grace!
Fun fact: she coined the term “debugging” in reference to fixing an issue within a computer when she found an actual moth within the system.

Inspiration Behind the Name
The Hobby is named after Mrs. Oveta Culp Hobby, wife of former Texas Governor William P. Hobby. A strong and courageous woman, Mrs. Hobby began her career after graduating from University of Texas Law School at the Texas House of Representatives. A writer at heart, she eventually went to work for the Houston Post-Dispatch. During a time when women working as executives were almost unheard of, she proudly served as the executive vice president chair of the newspaper. Mrs. Hobby went on to publish books on parliamentary law, serve as the Chief of the Women's Division of the Bureau of Public Relations in the War Department and was a founder of the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps. She worked in radio and television, and played an active role in the election of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She continued on to become the director of the Federal Security Administration (FSA) and the first secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Mrs. Hobby was the second woman in history to ever hold a U.S. Cabinet position.
The Hobby handbag represents a woman who will go down in history as one of the most courageous and empowered women of her time. Not only does this bag honor an incredible leader, it empowers modern day women who are paving a path for themselves amidst challenges. During the Civil War President Lincoln sent for Mrs. Grant to join her husband, aware of the positive effect she had on him. Mrs. Grant's presence lifted her husbands spirits and buoyed his confidence; she covered more than 10,000 miles in four years -- and nearly 4,000 in just the first year to be with her husband.
