8 Winter Skin Care Tips For Men
Oh.. the weather outside is frightful...
It's true! The cold air + icy winds are blowing, and in addition to making life a bit more uncomfortable that normal... these exciting winter conditions are more damaging to your skin than you know. This is especially true if you are shaving everyday. Bottom line: Taking care of your skin is just as important as finding that hot Christmas gift on December 24th! (That's right... we're talking you YOU husbands out there! We know when you do your Christmas shopping! You're not fooling anyone!)
Your skin need more love an attention than usual during the winter months, so we went to the skincare experts to find out how you can keep those cherry cheeks cheery! Here are 8 of our favorite tips to help you keep you handsomely, rugged looks this holiday season... minus the redness and chapping!
1. Keep Hydrated!
Believe it or not, drinking plenty of water is one of the best ways to maintain the health of your skin. Your skin cells are primarily water to in between the cups of cocoa and hotty totties make sure you are rehydrating your skin cells with lots and lots of water.
2. Exfoliate 2-5 days a week.
Lots of dead skin cells and debris accumulate on your face. Between the dry weather and the scarves wrapped around our faces, our skin can get pretty nasty. By exfoliating a few times a week you are helping your face look cheery and bright! Our favorite exfoliating soap for men is from RedBeard brand!
This Brew Bar soap (oh yes, you read that correctly) comes in two amazing, manly scents: IPA + Hefeweizen!
3. Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
You have to put the moisture back into your skin in the dry weather and especially if you are smart and exfoliate regularly. Your skin type will decide which type of moisturizer is best for you. Oily faces use light moisturizers and dry faces use heavier ones. We love the Lubricating Pre-Shave Oil from Shaveology!
It soothes and conditions all types of skin and is available on it's own or as part of our Shaveology Kit! Click here.
4. Don’t forget the SPF.
I know you are thinking that you don’t live near a beach and your Santa doesn’t rock red surfer shorts. But regardless of the temperature, you still need to protect your face from the sun’s harmful rays. You can put on SPF before your moisturizer or even use a moisturizer that contains SPF.
5. Use chapstick!
It’s smart to have one home, in the car, or even in your pocket. Last thing you want to have are cracked lips when your darling is standing underneath the mistletoe. Regularly use a lip balm on your lips.
6. Shave very carefully.
The best time for you to get a nice close shave is immediately after a warm shower. Your pores are open the most at this point and you will get the closest shave. If you can’t shave right after a shower then try to multitask and shave in the shower or just apply a hot washcloth on your face before you shave. The Shaveology Gift Set embodies all the elements of a perfect shave: precision, quality and efficiency.
7. Facial hair does not protect against dryness!
Most men think their beard will keep all of the winter elements off of their skin, but this just isn’t true. A beard conditioner, like this Mountain Man Beard Conditioner from RedBeard Brand
will hydrate, down through the hair, to keep your skin baby soft. (Did we mention it smells amazing, too?)
8. Fight the frigid horrors of winter while you sleep.
It takes a manly man to consider his skin and take good care of it. Use a heavier moisturizer at night to fight not just the dreaded day’s dryness but premature aging as well. Just because there is another year passing us by doesn’t mean we have to show the passing of time on your face.
