This Finn handbag began its journey by keeping a soldier warm as a United States Military Academy blanket. Once this wool blanket reached its initial life expectancy, as a vital tool to the U.S. Military, it then began a second journey into becoming a treasured handbag. The raw materials are shipped to the homes of our Nation’s military members, where spouses cut, stamp and press the items during naptime or at their leisure. Once the items are transformed into the parts and pieces of a handcrafted product, made entirely in the United States, they are stamped with their individual maker mark. The items continue their journey by being shipped, via USPS, to our fabshop in Southern Pines, NC where another military spouse completes assembly. These parts come together from all corners of our nation - representing the community of military spouses that come together to complete one bag. A support tag is added as the final touch - an ode to the yellow ribbon that shows support to our military members. The completed handbag then finds a home with our customers that support the military and their family members, while appreciating the importance of an American Made product.
The Finn is named after Alice Finn, wife of U.S. Navy lieutenant John William Finn. A sailor in the United States Navy who became a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration. As a petty officer, John Finn received the Medal of Honor for his outstanding contribution and act of valor during the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II. Despite being repeatedly wounded during the attack, he managed to single handedly opperate a machine gun from an exposed position, providing relief and protection to many of his comrades. It is reported that it was the thought of returning to his wife Alice Finn, that fostered the great patriotism and courage that he demonstrated during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Throughout his services, Alice and John opened their home to five Native American foster children.
